this story is set in hawkins, Indiana 1985. will byers has been in love with his best friend mike wheeler for years. since Kindergarten, will and mike have always been close, until mike meets eleven, the only girl that ever payed any attention to him romantically. the boys are torn apart, as mike only devotes his time with eleven, and will is set on the sidelines, watching his one true love slowly forget about him

(After S4. Predictions for S5. *Spoilers in story*) After Mike and Will's deep conversation about being best friends, Mike is starting to wonder if he sees Will as more than a friend. He isn't sure if he loves El only for her superpowers because she saved Will and her friends. Will still regrets not confessing his true feelings to Mike and hopes to tell him soon. Maybe they always were meant to be together. Crazy together.

The Byers family could not have moved back to Hawkins at a worse time. There was an outbreak of the "Hanahaki Disease," and anyone with an unrequited love was vulnerable to becoming infected with flowers growing inside their lungs.
