It is the year 1888 and London is abuzz with Christmas cheer. Parties are being held, gifts bought, houses decorated, and of course witch hunting is alive and well too. Enter the eccentric, decidedly bookish scientist, Newt Scamander. Newt is currently studying fascinating creatures that live in London. Unfortunately, he is the only person he knows who can see them. Estranged from his rich family and labled mad by the community, Newt sets out to prove these creatures do exist and he is not crazy before his family commits him to a mental hospital. On the flip side of society is Credence Barebone, an orphan under the care of an abusive anti-witch adoptive mother, who also carries a big secret. He is not entirely human. Newt and Credence are destined to collide but they may not get the fairy tale ending they want. Dark forces are on the rise in London and something evil stalks the streets.

Newt finds Credence after the Aurors blasted apart the Obscurus (yes, it's one of those fics), and Credence is having a bit of a hard time with the transition, so to speak. Credence has never stayed with such nice people, or seen magic used in such a mundane and harmless way. Or had someone believe him when he told them he's not a girl. It can't be real, can it? That potion that Newt talks about-the one that can change your body... how is that even possible? That Newt is so unfailingly kind and understanding-he has to want something from Credence, right? ...Right? And that Newt Scamander-what was the word?-"fancies" him? Ridiculous. ...Isn't it?
