After my third visit to Crete, I decided to write down my thoughts about this beautiful Greek island. Crete has the way to enchant every visitor.

Theseus has always wondered about who his father is. He lived in Troezen, Greece, with his mother Aethra and their servant Aello, where every day all Theseus had to do is worry about what his best friend Jason and he are going to do. When he finally learns of his heritage, adventure leads him to Athens, where he learns more about Crete and what the wicked King Minos is making the Athenians do. He realizes that his destiny is to stop the Cretans and save Athens from Minos' revenge. Things look bleak for Theseus, and a rash decision to go to Crete as bait begins to seem stupid. However, when he meets Ariadne, Princess of Crete, he sees opportunity, hope, and future. Princess Ariadne becomes something more important to Theseus, a person he must protect with the strength that he protects Athens. Some gods are with Theseus, and some are against him, but only the Fates can guide him back.

A summer in Heraklion, Crete. Something between escape and return.

Zephyra is the daughter of the great commander of Crete who serves under the mighty king Minos. She has lived her life too scared to dream and too fearful to want, unsure if she even wants to exist in such a world where there is no place for her. The fear of her father one day striking her down for her uselessness always looming over her and the isolation she feels as a woman tearing into her each day. For there is no place for someone like her in a world where only men with great stories to tell are favoured by the gods, a world where her story will hold no weight in centuries to come. However this is a story for every story went untold. A story of love and passion, a story to remember the women who's lives were forgotten at the expenses of another man's greatness, a story for the women who dared to love another and were looked down upon in shame. A story to give the women of ancient times a voice. For we will carve out a place for them. -*-*-*-* This story will explore the many known tales that surrounded ancient Crete as well as the tale of an original character. If you enjoy mythology and are a fan of historical fiction this novel is for you! I found inspiration for this novel through the wonderful stories by Madeline Millar and Pat Barker and I would highly recommend them to every classicist out there!
