Seventeen-year-old Skylar has spent most of her life trying not to become her mother. Being the daughter of Ravenport's most successful private detective means growing up around unfinished case files, sleepless nights, too much coffee, and empty wine bottles. Sky wants none of it. She'd rather see the world through the lens of her camera than spend her life searching for the worst in people. Then a student at Ravenport High is found dead. The police call it suicide. A few days later, another student dies the same way. There is only one strange connection between the deaths: both bodies are discovered shortly after Jamie-the mysterious new girl who arrived in Ravenport only days earlier-leaves the scene. Sky doesn't want to investigate. At least, that's what she keeps telling herself. But the closer she looks, the less the pieces fit. And when she discovers that each victim received the same message exactly three days before their death, coincidence becomes much harder to believe. A black flower. A letter. Two words. **YOU'RE NEXT.** With the number of victims rising and the police refusing to see what Sky sees, she finds herself doing the one thing she swore she never would: following in her mother's footsteps. Her first suspect? Jamie. Unfortunately, Jamie has no intention of staying out of Sky's investigation. And the more time Sky spends with the frustrating, impossible-to-read girl, the harder it becomes to decide whether she wants to uncover Jamie's secrets... or get closer to her. Someone in Ravenport is watching. Someone knows exactly which students to choose. And with every black flower, the clock begins again. Three days. One warning. Then another body. Sky thinks she's hunting a killer. She has no idea the killer has been waiting for her to start looking.
