Professional contractor Alick Durare is sent to start trouble between two mafia families. The task itself is not too much of a challenge, however it came with unforeseen consequences: accidentally catching someone else in the crossfire. Not wanting to leave them behind, Alick flees with a shaky partner in tow and tries to find a new life for them. This is my first published work. It was originally a short story written for my friend's birthday, but I decided to share it out. I would greatly appreciate some feedback about the writing and I do hope you enjoy the story.

After his alcoholic mother dies, sheltered teenager Leroy Smiley is left reeling… by how little he feels. His numbness comes to an abrupt end, however, when a blurry image of a forgotten family friend forms in his mind. Desperately seizing his unlikely chance to get the one thing he's always wanted, a normal life, Leroy ditches his new foster home to find the caring woman from his past. With little more than a few hazy memories, though, it'll take more than desperation to find her. He hops a train to Folsom City Prison to learn more from his father, and winds up on a journey that takes him further than he'd ever imagined, as he experiences the harsh indifference of the real world for the first time. Takes place in the year 2001.

As a young freshman, she beat out five juniors and two seniors for their record. As a sophomore, she beat more of them, breaking three more records. It all changed when her father was fired and their family moved to McFarland, a small and poor town that in the words of their own residents "No one ever stays in, unless they have to" and she helps her Dad create their Cross Country team. Why do we always want what we can't have? And then once we finally get it we don't want it. Or we want the opposite of what we have. Or maybe we are just sad and can't find what makes us happy. Well actually I found what makes me happy. I just have one tiny problem. That same thing make my twin sister happy too. And he's who I want. And I don't think sharing is the way to go. Ashlyn and Carson are opposites in every way possible (Well except they both are pretty). The only way they are the same is that they both have their eyes on the same guy. And that guy happens to have his eyes on one of the twins, maybe even the wrong one.
