In my book it's a mix between the movie and the series.

After somehow getting sent to the time of the X-Men, the Doctor meets Professor Charles Xavier, headmaster and founder of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. In the time of the X-Men though, trouble's a brewin' with the MRD on the rise. With the Doctor and the New X-Men working together, maybe the MRD will finally go down.
