GOING THROUGH SOME EDITING! The Confederate Battle Flag is alive- But it isn't what you might think. Dixie (as he goes by nowadays) has been stuck inside America's head all these years. First a voice of opposition, then blunt annoyance. Then council. He has changed. And America needs him more than ever. *may be offensive. Dixie is a good guy in this. Do not read if this offends you or if you are triggered by violence

"But I am okay." "NO YOU'RE NOT!" He's nervously running his fingers through his dark brown hair. "Yes, I am. Everyone is always okay. I was committing suicide and being okay. You want to know how? Because okay is a word you say you are when you want people to leave you the fuck alone. Everyone knows that okay is just a word that means you feel like you want to die, but you're stuck in forced human interaction. Okay is the second shittiest word in the English language." "What's the shittiest word?" "Suicide. Makes it sound like it's a legal transaction between you and yourself, when all that happens is you try to die. They should call it attempted death or something. Suicide is a bullshit word the people use when they want to sound formal. The fact of the matter is that offing oneself is never formal. There are no rules to follow; you just have to try to make yourself die. Suicide is like a pickled herring, making its way down your throat with all the reluctance in the world and leaving a shitty aftertaste in your mouth." After an "attempt to die", Renée has to deal with the old and the new, leaving her wishing that she was dead and wishing she was alive all at the same time.

Washed Away: From Darkness to Light is a memoir that recounts the experiences of model Nikki DuBose as she overcomes a more than seventeen-year battle with abuse, child sexual victimization, eating disorders, psychosis, alcoholism, drugs, depression, suicide attempts, body dysmorphic disorder, and various other mental health issues, all while trying to navigate through the dark side of the fashion industry. Her journey began as a young, introverted child with a florid imagination growing up in Charleston, South Carolina. By the age of eight she had been sexually, physically, and emotionally abused and had developed an eating disorder. The abuse warped Nikki's self-perception and sparked patterns of psychosis, depression and destructive behavior that stayed with her into adulthood. In her early twenties she began working as a television host and started a career in modeling. Eventually Nikki attained success, appearing on the covers of magazines such as Maxim, shooting for editorials like Vanity Fair, Glamour and FHM, and appearing in campaigns for Perry Ellis. Cast into a world of excess, superficiality, and vanity, Nikki traveled the globe and experienced the finest that the material world had to offer, all while feeling empty inside. Her disorders, addictions and mental health issues took her to the brink of mortality and only though a deeply painful inner-battle and her mother's death was she able to reconnect the lost pieces of her soul and see the person she had so long rejected. Washed Away: From Darkness to Light will serve as a testimony to others to let them know that they are not alone in their fears, doubts, and frustrations, and that through recovery all things are possible.
