She believes she only deserves the leftovers no matter the scenario; home, school, anywhere. She doesn't know this until near the end, but she has been watched her entire life, by the Vultures. The Vultures are a predatory cult-like organization that hunts for troubled youths and feeds on their trauma to turn them into operatives. They stalk targets for years, waiting until the subject is at their lowest point, before acting. Once inside the organization, members are stripped of their identity, including their physical appearance and personal morals, and are subjected to strict psychological conditioning. Jane is brought to the cult after a tragic loss, but she doesn't follow these conditions as well as they all hoped. She falls in love with a higher rank member, rebelled, and even took a kid that one of the Vultures brought to make sure he does not fall into the dark hands of the cults twisted rules.
