They say cynestralia was once a beautiful land of magic and miracles, and that one day the Queen of the vampires did a horrible misdeed towards the gods. Because of the severity of this misdeed it is said the gods cursed the Queen and all of her subjects. The curse caused vampires to lose the magic and become dependent on the blood of mortals to sustain them. These days hardly anybody believes in this, partially because the Queen has been dead for the last millennium. But the other reason is because the mortals/humans have such short lives that true history has become little more than myth and bedtime stories. The last mortal to see any of the gods died eons ago and the vampires stopped being careless in hunting shortly after the Queen died by the hands of a human vampire slayer. But there is a prophecy. The prophecy states that on the day a vampire Royal turns a mortal they have watched grow from infancy with no motives aside from love and not wishing the death of a beloved mortal shall be the day that vampires are freed from the curse. On that day the Gods shall return and the magic of cynestralia will return and be multiplied by the number of years it had been locked away. The thing is, vampires know little of the prophecy, and only a very prestigious group of human monks and priestesses have access to the prophecy. In the beginning when the prophecy was new nearly all humans knew it. As a result of word of mouth vampires know that there is a prophecy, however they only have heard bits and pieces from unreliable sources that most had not heard the original prophecy. this is the story of how that prophecy came true and what happened afterward.

Adisa always dismissed his father's warnings about the cursed land-until the night a spectral woman in tattered red emerged from the baobab grove, her bare feet bleeding into the dust. "Your blood knows my pain," she whispered, her grip icy. She speaks of a broken promise, a debt owed by his grandfather-one that has festered into a generational curse. Now, the barren fields, the failing crops-they all make sense. But her demand is worse: "You must love me." As the boundary between myth and reality crumbles, Adisa must choose: surrender to a ghost's twisted bargain or watch his bloodline-and his future-wither to dust. The land remembers. And so does she."
