Avery had known Derek since they were kids. That didn't mean that he knew how to word this. He's known he loved Derek as more than a friend since they were little twerps without any such worries they now do going through college. He's loved Derek since long before he had a word for it. So he also knows that most ways he could try to verbally express this will end in Derek assuming that it's too good to be true and that he's doing everything out of pity. So instead of saying it outright, the solution has to be taking him on a few dates, Derek isn't that clueless, right? (Aka I wanted a 5+1, but I can't go shorter than 8 chapters XD)

(Written for Rook who lives in my inbox and inspired by the knight Avery post by sacchariferouspoet on Tumblr) Inherent kindness did not exist. Not as far as Derek was concerned. As the crown prince of the Empire of Quelen, people were never kind to him unless they wanted something. People were either sycophantic damn near to the point of insulting, or as rude as possible while leaving room for plausible deniability. They hated or loved him for the crown, he was not a living being as far as they were concerned. That is what he believed until Avery waltzed right into his life and sat down and refused to leave, not that he wanted him to leave. Why would he want the only one to make the world seem bearable leave?

One day, Avery logs into a Minecraft world, already installed into his computer.. he finds a mine, with a book in a chest. "Don't turn left.". Avery marks it on that day that he swears he'll find d3rlord3. And when he does, he owes his life to him, to save him this time. This, is that story. The story of Avery's Vengeance.

Right after he dies in Minecraft, Avery finds Derek in the real world, and they run away together (cover art is my own)
