The world has been destroyed. No life remains except for the horribly charred and mutated creatures that still roamed the land, barren land and ruins of the beauty that once was also remaining. However, in the rubble of it all, emerged life. Pure and beautiful life. Flowers. But they weren't plants. They were human. And they were the last remaining life. Not all of the flowers made it either. A select few were able to make it. Now, the fight for survival begins. Fight against those creatures that is.

Australia is a new country of the British Empire when World War 1 begins. In this time of War, the son of a family of four volunteers to go and fight, leaving his father, his mother and his sister. Without Robert at home, will the family be able to cope with a father falling ill, a mother to the care for her husband, and a sister left with chores her grandma's stories? ---This is a story I wrote for my English short story assignment in August 2018 using the book 'A Rose for the ANZAC Boys' by Jackie French as a reference for the time period.
