Perhaps it's that knowledge that he knew both sides of her and accepted them that led her to this dark path of toxic relationships and attachment. Being deprived of love really messes up a person and their perception of love. Having experienced none, Vivian would cling to any scrap of "love" that she could get. But, why does this "love" feel so wrong?
