After having to put up with her daughters' behaviour for years, Sandra, a single mom with a lot on her plate, decides that enough is enough. Because of an upcoming business trip, Sandra is forced to leave the country for several months, however, does not believe that it is a good to leave her daughters to fend for themselves. To her relief, Sandra comes across an ad in the newspaper which will hopefully help the family.

Dan Howell is a young boy who never really got the point of love, he never wanted it. Until that is he was forced into a relationship, with a young girl named Autumn. Autumn belonged to a rich family who was willing to take Dan in and help his family, in exchange for Dan's love to their daughter. Dan's family was poor, and had barely enough money for the home they have. When Dan moved to Manchester with his parents, they decided for him to go to a school called Brooklyn Heights. That's when he met Phil Lester

Silence; complete absence of sound - Dan is deaf and because of it, was abandoned by his family who didn't want to bother to deal with him. He is soon fostered by Phil's family who's parents have been fostering kids for all of his life. Phil tries to help Dan feel at home and even reunite him with his biological family again while Dan is troubled at school and every where he goes for being different. At home Phil's parents seem to be taking good care of him but behind closed doors are secrets they have kept from Phil that could potentially hurt Dan and get them in major trouble if someone were to find out

Dan, the one who's quiet, bullied, lonely. Phil, the popular kid, the comedian, silly, outgoing. When Dan moves to Manchester, Phil sets a goal to become his friend. But, maybe "friend" becomes an understatement.
