Dansemacabre Stories

Inspired by a painting in the late Middle Ages, and a song by French Composer Camille Saint-Saëns, a famous attraction from Efteling, located in the Netherlands, comes to life in a story. Two Americans were on vacation to the Netherlands. While there, they found themselves on a frightening journey of their lives

Everyone knows the story. Everyone knows of the evil. Visculamia. Locked away in Druinen. Caught. Condemned. Burned. But the ones with status and power write the story. Write the history books. The legacy. Decide who the villain is, who the victim is, and make sure everyone repeats it until it sounds like truth. Remember status holds power, and not every battle is fought with swords. There are always more sides to the story. There is always a charming boy, a friend who smiled and a girl who loved. There is always a version they didn't want you to hear. This is hers.

Listen to the tale told by an elderly woman. As this lady awaits the arrival of Macabre, she recounts the her memories of seeing him twice before in her life; at her parents death and when her husband died. Note: I recommend reading this while listening to Danse Macabre, because it was based off that song as I listened to it. He is often invoked for medical help and safe travel. His name means "God heals."

Everyone loves a good masquerade ball. However, when you're searching for the love of your life through a drug-soaked, gas-mask wearing crowd, things might very well turn sour. Especially if you don't know what they're all hiding behind those long leather snouts and bulging eye-windows.... (word count- 1229)
