This story is about a kunoichi from a powerful clan. One of the three most powerful clans in fact. But of whom all wish to be pacifists, and to live peacefully in their village. So they would offer help as they could, but only if they do not show any signs of hostility or deceit, especially the need to cause more discourse. For so many years, their village remained as peaceful as it could be. Aside from the first and second great shinobi wars, it was still a safe haven for those in need. Until one day, they were all massacred. All but one. And that was the little girl, who was all by herself after her parents were killed. No one else in sight, until a group of ANBU from the Leaf came as soon as they could after receiving a distress call from the village. But it was too late. Hart is chosen by the Qhan of the Monqhul to accompany a joint trade mission to the Spice Islands and to Katithandra, the Southern Dragonland. Hart becomes immersed in the politics of the Mission and the melded society of Aboriginal and Asian customs that is the Temple of the Mothers Naked Heart. Ambitious Soong Empire military officers and government officials have for centuries taken the “Journey to the South,” to Katithandra to learn from the dragon riding priests of the Temple. Hart is caught up in this tradition and is confronted on all levels of his being as he travels deep into Katithandra and Temple society. Where do his loyalties lie? To the Mater and his Order, to the trade mission or to the priests of the Temple. What will this young priest become?

Betrayed at the moment of ascension, Lian Xu loses everything. His power, his sect, and his faith in the path he once followed are gone. Stripped of his cultivation and cast back to the mortal realm, he must rebuild from nothing. Yet the path ahead hides secrets far deeper than he could ever imagine.
