The novel revolves around Valerie Williams who lives with her grandmother and brother on Frost, a hidden magical property for supernatural creatures on the outskirts of Cork County, Ireland. One night when Valerie is out on her usual midnight runs she comes across a stranger. She knocks him out thinking of him to be a soulless dark wizard called darker. Little does she know that this stranger is going to flip her whole world upside down. As the story progresses Valerie not only uncovers truths surrounding her parent's death but also discovers the darkness she harbors within which very well may lead the whole magical property and their community towards destruction.
