For generations, the forest clans have existed through fights, disagreements, and war in perfect balance, animals existing simultaneously for as long as anyone can remember. But all of that is threatened when a mysterious force begins to seep into the forest, disturbing lives and unsettling all of the forest residents. In these dark times, there are battles, death, and rules are bent to the breaking point in order to keep every animal alive. Rifts spring up between some animals and close between others, the balance teetering on the edge of collapse as Goldenstar, Willow, and the rest of the leaders struggle to keep an ever-slipping hold on order, but as the stakes rise higher and their greatest enemy is revealed, it becomes clear that the rules the animals have lived by don't apply here. The hardships aren't just coming from the dark forces, though, and could be coming from the very animals who are fighting it. The wolf leader Willow is mistrusted because she was the first one to act. The cat leader Goldenstar is held back by her suspicion of the other animals. Goldenstar's best friend is caught between the duty to his clan and the duty to his heart. And every animal is forced to make hard choices between friends and family, Clan and survival, and whether to put their life over others' in the greatest battle for survival the forest has ever seen.
