The boys were gonna die right at the spawn of the game till. The tutorial AI's save their lives.

This set up has been done before by others, but this is my take on the story. My own interpretation. Jake and John run from the lab known as their home. They run to a nearby forest only to find a cabin occupied with hunters. Running... Running... And Running is all the do that night.
