Twinkling Watermelon is a romance drama that beautifully weaves together youth, music, family, and time travel into a deeply emotional coming-of-age story. The series centers on Ezekiel, a musically gifted high school student who is also a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults), meaning he is the only hearing person in his family. Despite the communication barriers he faces at home, music becomes his escape and his voice, a way to express feelings he cannot always put into words.
One day, after a mysterious encounter at a music shop, Ezekiel is suddenly transported back to the year 1995. There, he meets the younger versions of his parents: his father, Yousef, who is still carefree and unaware of the future ahead; and his mother, Callie, whose life path seems very different from what Ezekiel knows. Shocked and confused, Ezekiel better understands his parents' lives; he gets involved in their world and even forms a band called "Watermelon Sugar," where music once again becomes the bridge connecting their lives.
As the story unfolds, the drama explores themes of first love, friendship, identity, and sacrifice. Ezekiel experiences the bittersweet nature of youth, meeting people who will shape his heart, discovering romance in unexpected ways, and learning that love is not always perfect but always meaningful. The relationships he built in the past challenge his understanding of fate and force him to confront difficult choices: should he change the past for a better future or accept that every hardship has its purpose?
