A small collection of 18 poems written by Lauren Spirek, reflecting on her experience with young love, her battle with clinical depression, and mourning.

A young boy and girl play chess as a way to deal with their troubles in 1980s Toronto. This was originally published in the final issue of Descant Magazine. The magazine is now defunct and the issue out of print.

If anyone asked Ananya to give one word for 'Independent, calm and composed', she would have smiled and said 'Adya'. Adya had been Ananya's helping hand in everything, from dressing her barbies in childhood to dealing with awkward adulthood. She had solutions for every problems. She had been Ananya's inspiration until she ends her own life. She was a hero but heroes don't quit and Ananya decides to uncover calm and composed Adya's complicated secrets.

This poetry book was written during some of the most challenging times that have existed within my life. Most of the poems address my thoughts on some problems plaguing the world today. While the fourth-grader might be starting to get identified as 'Jasmine Ender's best friend', he tends to remain in a normal way of life. Forget the fact that his two best friends are girls because he knows they're going places as long as they stick together. Mark knows that even if Jasmine and Monet's world ends up in a storm of fire and wind, he'll be the one normal in their life now. That's what a best friend's supposed to do, right? Monet Ivory is desperate for things to return to normal. Two years ago, she was a normal girl. And ever since then, everything's flipped upside down. First, the divorce that tore her life apart. Then, Jasmine's new popularity forced her to always be away. And now her mother's dead too. Monet feels like everything ganged up against her. Add her father's new girlfriend onto the pile and Monet feels like she drowning. She can't even trust Jasmine and Mark with this, can she? Glass shards are terrifying to a child who's afraid of windows into reality. But childhood blissful ignorance can't last forever, no matter how much these kids wish it could.

Starting University is nerve racking. When Tara leaves home for the first time to move into the dorms at university, she's excited to start this new chapter in her life. Her new roommate is cool and soon she has a new tribe of friends to hang with. What she doesn't anticipate is her roommate's playboy brother to always be hanging around and popping up when he shouldn't be. But as Tara goes through first time life experiences, including heartbreak, she realizes that having him around might not be so bad after all. No matter how hard she tries, their paths keep crossing, and pretty soon, it gets hard not to fall for him. Before she knows it, she becomes a part of a family and things are comfortable. But when his family member is in a terrible accident, she learns more about grief and loss than she knew possible. This coming of age novel deals with love, loss and all matters of the heart.

This story is written in a free-verse stature, a similar and meaningful style from Ellen Hopkin's books. The books; Crank, Trick, Traffic, and many of Hopkin's other writings heavily inspire this story. This story contains strong language, possible triggers, and diverse opinions. Some of which may be extremely bias, and offensive. HOLLAND IS: A sweet girl. Almost too pure for the world to leave it's dirty little finger-print bruises. Everything is mismatched, family, friends, her lover. Her family isn't one; except her Grandmother who fills the empty hole in her heart with love. Her friends aren't true, but they're everywhere. One thing she's set on is escaping the sick ruined love she's fallen into, and chasing after her near-perfect idea of heaven. MICHAEL IS: A numb boy. He passes through everything blind and withering. His aspirations, if he has any, are dwindling. Floating around, unaffected, seems the way to go when your exploited and beaten everyday. He just wants something to fall over him and consume him with interest and meaning. That something is found, ripping apart his good intentions and throwing them away into an obsession that goes deeper than himself. JOJO IS: A strong girl. She has everything, beauty, brains, and her words are stronger than any form of brawn. That's destroyed. Ripped away by the dying words of her grandfather. It's gone and empty and all that's left is anger. Grieving is something she's never experienced, but she's sure it shouldn't make her feel this powerful. CAESAR IS: A nebbish boy. He's maxed out his talent, and taken life with long strides. One thing he's hung up on is his soul-crushing infatuation with another boy. When his family starts losing more money than they're making, they all seem to think praying-the-poor-away is the solution. He takes it upon himself to fix not only his problems, but everyone else's. And he's going to have to reinvent himself. Another version that's numb, cold, and used.

Zach and Matthew were twin boys who meant a lot to me so I wanted to share their story here with my fans. Zach had dark hair and wasn't very attractive. But I still loved him as he was funny, smart, and a good friend. Matthew, though they were identical, attracted most girls more. he was taller and his eyes were a deeper blue. he was really muscular, but either way I loved them both. they were some of my best friends. we hung out constantly from 3rd grade to 10th grade. That was when Matthew got hit by a car. The driver was Matts girlfriend, lauren,'s ex-boyfriend. the driver was drunk but he admitted he did it on perpose before his sentence to jail. Matthew died soon after. Zach, an only child now, was thinking of suicide without his brother. By the 11th grade, Zach had moved in with my family. His single mom had picked up a drinking problem, trying to forget about her son. I led Zach through highschool, trying to help him. He had been a different person for a long time now.

1/13/2023 my grandad died and I soon knew things would be different. He was in national guard and I will forever be thankful for his service. He went through so many things almost unimaginable, his dad was killed when he was 2 or 3 and was raised to work hard on the farm by his loving mom and step-dad. The cause of death is still unknown as he had cancer but he was supposed to take pills to make him live longer. But for know I'm going to say he lost to cancer. The last thing he did was check on my grandma while she was in the garden. When she came was slumped down in his chair and he passed in the ambulance.

THIS IS MY FIRST BOOK MEANING IT CONTAINS (cringe, grammar mistakes, and more) BEWARE! This presents a teen romance where a girl (Serena) goes to a new high school after a tragedy where she loses her brother (Malik). She finds herself falling in love with someone who is innocent and sincere, but she meets another guy who is puzzling and potentially has the background of murder. I lost my dad 3 months ago and I have gone through a emotional rollercoaster, and still am. I am writing this to maybe make it easier for someone who recently lost someone
