What if we found intelligent life in the universe? What would happen if they came to us not as enemies, but as refugees? Cipher is a stranger in a strange land. From a different world. He has spent most of his young life preparing to represent his people among the humans, proving that Aeolians can live among humans. He and several others are enrolled in schools scattered across the world. But integration is never easy, and as one of the first Cipher must bear the brunt of it. Will he succeed in his mission or is it too much to ask of someone so young? ***If you're looking for the Cipher from my short story "Not Alone" this is the fuller story*** ***Warnings*** I don't really know how to do this... There is bullying (verbal and physical), some violence, very mild and few 'bad words' (let me know if you see more I need to add) ***This is a first draft of my original story I hope to publish one day so constructive criticism and feedback is much appreciated**

This story follows the life of one young Penelope Gray as she learns to deal with the loss of her mother at the age of 17, and tries to remember how to live life like it matters. This is not a happy story. This is a story about death, loss, grief, and looking for hope. This story covers pretty sensitive subjects, and may be upsetting at points. But if you're going through something similar, this may just be helpful in some way, even if only to show that you're not alone. This story is based on my own experiences, with some names and titles changed for safety reasons. My hope is that those close to me can understand perhaps what I'm going through, and that maybe- just maybe- I can use this as a way to reach out to someone else going through a tragedy.

TW: alcoholism, abuse/IPV, grief (loss of loved ones, not necessarily death), and heavy topics of depression. Labels will be added to chapters where it is needed. Not to every chapter.
