Prompt Selected: You begin to realize that nothing is quite what it seems. * * * * Three centuries after the Correction of Humanity Act reshaped society, engineered beings known as Vatlings rule an isolated nation built on selective superiority. But among the four original lineages, one has begun to dwindle. When buried secrets come to light, Kaelis - a Lineage IV Variance Vatling - is confronted with a truth erased from history: empathy was never a flaw. It was deliberately subtracted... and secretly restored. As dormant coding begins awakening within Variance Vatlings across the nation, Kaelis and her few allies find themselves gripped by emotions that never meant to felt by their kind - fear, doubt, and compassion. While the dominant lineages tighten control and the illusion of order fractures, a hidden contingency waits beyond the surveillance grid: a refuge designed to preserve both natural humans and engineered beings capable of moral choice. Kaelis is not defective. She is functioning. And the world built on perfection is beginning to crack. * * * * Round 1 / 2,668 words Round 2 / Round 3 / Total Word Count: 2,668 (TBW)

During the creation of a batch of clones, a generation system was hit, sending a surge throughout the entire development tower, killing almost all inside. A Kaminoan scientist discovered that only nine barely survived the catastrophic event, but the clones were discovered to be altered by the surge, making them "defectives." As the squad of nine grow up together, they face harsh criticism from a narcissistic Kaminoan scientist, and bullying from their peers, specifically from one unit led by a clone named Talon. The defectives must learn to adapt and overcome difficulties together as they transfer from cadets to troopers of the Grand Army of the Republic. Join Surge Squadron on their adventures in their story, where your emotions will be sent on a journey of highs and lows as they progress through their lives in Tipoca City before the Clone Wars. Warnings: If you are uncomfortable with any of these topics, SSD may not be for you. Read with caution (I will update warnings as the chapters are released): Death, syringes (one scene only in chapter two), surgery (mentions and prep only), bullying/hate-speech, ableism. (Author's note): Like what you're reading? I'd appreciate it if you could show your support with votes and "subscribing" to the story to get updates on new chapters headed this way! Commenting is appreciated too! Share your thoughts, predictions, points of improvement, etc! ALSO: I DO NOT OWN STAR WARS OR THE CANONICAL CHARACTERS AND PLANETS MENTIONED. I only own my original characters in this story. Star Wars and its assets belong to Disney/Lucasfilms.
