The dead don't usually send mail. But Eris always had a flair for the dramatic.
Kagura never expected to inherit anything - least of all a farm.
She's a demihuman wanderer with white ears, a twitching tail, a pistol at her hip, and grief she doesn't know how to carry. Her older sister Eris - the Crimson Witch - is gone. And then the letter arrives.
"I left you something better than an apology. Go to Ashenveil. They're waiting for you."
Ashenveil is a harvest town blessed by a goddess, where spite cannot grow and the people are almost offensively kind. Kagura takes her sister's old alchemy shop, works the inherited farm, and tells herself she's only staying long enough to settle the debt.
But the shelves are bare, the ingredients are guarded by monsters, and the town keeps finding ways to need her.
She goes out alone. She always has. She clears ruins, raids bandit camps, and comes home to a place that's starting to feel dangerous for a different reason entirely.
It's starting to feel like home.
