Todo comienza con el universo de invasor Zim tal y como lo conocemos, en el que Zim trabaja en una formula para hacerse crecer a si mismo ya que sus compañeros comienzan a crecer y el tiene la misma altura, puesto que es un irken. Dib se burla de el argumentando que tarde o temprano lo descubrirán por esto. Después de un tiempo Zim logra crear la formula y comienza a crecer con el tiempo, despues de unos años el y Dib están en la High Skool, sintiéndose satisfecho intenta contactar a los mas altos como de costumbre, solo que en esta llamada ellos notan que zim a crecido. Ellos consideran esto una ofensa ya que creen que Zim aumento su altura con la intención de derrocarlos un día, ya que en irk como sabemos el mas alto es quien gobierna, entonces mandan una armada a eliminarlo. Zim se ve en la necesidad de aliarse con Dib y pedir ayuda de una raza alienigena enemiga de los irken, esta raza les da protección con la condición de que Zim comparta su formula para hacer crecer un irken, ya que asi ellos podrían hacer crecer a un irken que ellos consideren tenga una mejor moral para dirigir el imperio que los mismísimos altos actuales. Esta raza alienigena le da una de sus "Interfaces biológicas" a Zim para darle una apariencia humana que pueda infiltrarse mejor entre la especie, ademas consideran que Dib es un humano capacitado para actuar de su guardaespaldas en lo que ellos extraen del cuerpo de Zim la formula de crecimiento.
