We are the Engines of Britain. A/N: this goes out to @Kieron0103's book 'The Beacon Railway, and @Braedey95's 𝙷𝚊𝚟𝚎𝚗 𝚘𝚏 𝚂𝚝𝚎𝚊𝚖 story, and I thought of making a Thomas and Friends story. Thomas and Friends characters belong to their respected owners/creators, along with some characters that'll be in this book. Also, other characters will appear, and they belong to their respected owners. My own OC characters belong to me. I wish to give a call out to @Braedey95,@kieron0103, and others.

River Torres is the new girl, once again. She used to be the life of everyone but ever since her mom died she's lost that little spark. She doesn't know where she's going and some days she feels like she's better off dead. Her dad's never home so she's alone in a large house with her own thoughts to consume her. She doesn't expect to make any friends at her new school but will a group of rowdy boys be able to pull her out of her shell and get that spark back in her eyes? It's going to be a roller coaster ride but maybe, just maybe, she'll be happy again.

After an accident at the Blue Mountain Quarry that puts both Diesel and Paxton out of service, Edward is send over to the quarry until the two diesels are repaired. While there Edward comes across a little green narrow gauge engine named Luke and learns from his old friend Skarloey, that when Luke arrived he did something very bad, so Edward tries to find out what Luke did before Diesel can tell The Fat Controller to send Luke away from Sodor forever. Note: I don't hate the actual movie, I think it is an amazing. But I'd like to give my version of the movie.

What if the world never left the steam era of the rail industry? Or better yet, what if diesels still came around, but instead of being found to be suitable replacements, they were found to be just as economical as steam locos, and therefore merely supplement them? What if, in America, the Interstates were never built in the manner in which they were in reality, and all the federal money spent on them instead went into other endeavors? What if the preservation movement still happened? What if...... I'm getting ahead of myself? It's probably best I not reveal to much of the story, lest I shoot myself in the foot on readership levels because I accidentally spoiled the general idea of the story and setting. Well, it's here in this alternate take on history that we follow our protagonist, "Big" John Spagler, a Bible thumping, truth seeking, 6 foot, 6 inch tall hillbilly from Western North Carolina with an appreciation for everything railroad. From the very ballast underneath the tracks, to the machines that thunder up and down those tracks, to the stations and terminals, to the freight yards, to the very nuts and bolts and rivets and welds of the rolling stock, to the architecture of the railroad buildings, and last but certainly not least, to the people that keep them running smoothly. Focus won't be on the rails for the first part of the story, mostly character and setting development and the interactions between the characters and other story elements. Don't worry though, the rails shall have their time in the limelight. Please keep in mind that this is literally my first ever Wattpad story so it may or may not be all over the place. This was made for an English assessment at my previous high-school back in 2022, where students would have to write a story based off of William Shakespeare's 'Hamlet' (Fun fact: The Lion King is (probably unintentionally) based off of Hamlet), this is what I wrote, I don't exactly remember what ranks I got for it, but I'm certain it was either a B or an A, either way, I think I got good marks off of this story; although based on 'Hamlet', this story also takes inspiration from the 2011 film 'Day of the Diesels' and 'The Lion King', this story is also stylised as being more of a "script" than anything, so you'll see a lot of "*x music plays*" or "Culdee: bazinga" throughout the story. Now it's 2025, and whenever I look back at this story, I just kinda think to myself "holy moly, that was actually pretty bad.", but I figured that y'all would probably want to see it, sooo... yeah, enjoy.
