But when Diluc discovers some Abyss Mages are plotting against him and goes to stop them as the Darknight Hero, he gets caught up in a bizarre ritual that leaves him...As his thirteen year old self?! After finding out that the once-again thirteen year old Diluc has none of his adult memories and is back to his long forgotten bright, naive, and optimistic self, Kaeya attempts to start their brotherly relationship anew. Ever consider how one thing can change your life in an instant? Ever been faced with the reality that our time isn't infinite? We all have that problem that's a burden on us, a problem if we just faced it our lives would be so much easier, but its a problem that's so hard to tackle, that it's simply easier to push it to the side for now. We go about our lives believing we have plenty of time to fix things and resolve that problem, but deep down we all know that isn't true. That problem is a ticking time bomb where one day it will be too late to fix, yet we are to scared to face that reality so instead everyone goes along with the naive hope that everything will be fine. However one day reality will hit and it will hit hard. You never know when it's going to come knocking; you're never ready for your life to abruptly change but it can happen anytime. For one Diluc Ragnvindr, reality hit him hard! He never expected his life to change that night but when he walked up those tavern stairs, his fate was sealed and the timer had started. tldr: Diluc finds Kaeya poisoned in the tavern and realises he's racing against time t save his brother but also get to reconcile with him.

[ two peas in a pod on ao3 ] the most known relationship in mondstadt was kaeya and diluc. after kaeya was taken in by diluc's father, crepus, the two acquired a relationship like no other. both the brothers would always be called "two peas in a pod" by crepys and his close friends. rightfully so, as well. crepus died. diluc's attempt at killing kaeya, more or less, had ruined what was left of their brotherly relationship. everything from that point on, they were strangers. they would still bicker over kaeya's drinking (diluc's wine, of course,) but that was it. diluc's secret identity as the darknight hero and his hate for the knights of favonius proved his grudge against both his brother and the knights. kaeya then follows crepus.
