Halloween is in a few days away and town marshal, Cobb Vanth, is already swamped. Not only is he dealing with a reclusive farmer with anger issues and a mysterious miscreant who has been digging holes in the woods, but he's got to do it all while also fending off unwanted (and not-so-subtle) advances from his deputy. Just when he thinks his headache can't get any worse, he finds a small child on the side of the road, huddled inside a strangely carved pumpkin that they refuse to leave. Not sure what to do with either, he takes them home. Little does he know, something else follows him home that night. And it wants it's head AND it's kid back. Griffin hasn't had an easy start to life, but when Diego Djarin adopts him, things can only get better for the four-year-old. Even he knew that there was his chance, but trauma of his past life stood in the way. Diego knew that it would be a big undertaking, adopting a kid, but he didn't think it would change his life entirely. Not very well-written. Just wanted to make a ship come true. Also, please note that only the characters are linked to canon, and everything that happens in this fic is completely unrelated.

Sometimes the universe is nice. Sometimes it will answer quiet prayers and desperate pleas with little to no fine print, no clauses, as if it's trying to make up for all the times it abandoned or wronged you. Sometimes the universe cares for its creations instead of cursing them for damnation. Din prayed that this was one of those times.
