This story takes place about a month after the events of the Six of Crows. You have always been a strong Corporalki but when you manage to create a person from nothing the gangs of the barrel become interested. After escaping kidnapping by the Dime Lions you find yourself stumbling into one of the many gambling dens of Ketterdam and falling into a life of crime, all the while become increasingly closer to the mysterious leader of the dregs, the bastard of the Barrel himself.

It is set before Inej leaves to hunt slavers, right after the last scene "Is my tie straight?" (Motivation for Inej visiting Pekka Rollins will appear). Major Kanej tension. A continuation of this story is also on my page, "I Recommend A Cane" also written by me. It takes place as Inej is getting back to Ketterdam and after she arrives. Inej's eyes widened slowly in realization. "Kaz, I-" she started. "No," Kaz murmured, "My brother was not an investment." "I didn't mean-" "-And I lost him," he snapped his gaze to her with sudden force, "But you know what I don't lose, Wraith? I don't lose on my investments. I always invest wisely. I always read the market. And I always turn a profit. I intend to do just that."
