When Deanna first noticed her parents were missing she panicked, and then denied it. The next day she accepted it but thought they were only going to be gone for a little bit longer. After all they had been gone for longer than this before, then the days turned into weeks and Deanna opened the box. The one her parents told her to never open unless they didn't come back for weeks or contact her. Her parents rules were always just in her mind, after all they were the only humans left that care, right?
