A princess with no memories of her past marries a king very intimidating. However, life is not so cruel, and perhaps she came to the right person. **** Sita was a princess of the kingdom of Videha. Thought to be dead years ago, she returns amidst secrecy with no memories of her past. She feels she has returned home, but not quite so. Unable to understand why her own family feels so aloof, she reluctantly agrees to marry the King of Aryavarta, Rama. Their marriage is a hush-hush event, not the pompous, celebratory kind one would expect a king to have. As days go by, Sita understands that the King is not as bad as the world paints him to be. She doesn't know if she can love him; perhaps she is beginning to, but doesn't hope for reciprocation. Until, one night, when she finds him sleeping with a tear-drenched face, clutching a letter written in her handwriting. Turns out she had forgotten him, but he never did.

Life is a brightly lit amusement park where everyone is running, though no one is quite sure where. We chase a version of happiness that feels like a prize behind thick glass. Sometimes we argue about which line to stand in; other times, we just queue there in silence, listening to the dry, mechanical click of the clock overhead. By the time the gates lock, you're just a tired person sitting on a bench with a flat soda, relieved that there's nothing left to see. Is that what we're calling happiness? A feeling that's only worth it because it's over? So I came to high school and surrendered the frantic, glittering chase for achievement. I joined Detective Novels Club, where my seniors spent their afternoons dusting for fingerprints with cocoa powder or clipping together ransom notes from yesterday's news. It was the sort of place people joined as a second club, the kind of place you go when you're already doing too much and need a spot to hide from the sun. The third year seniors graduated and left me behind. I was promoted to become the president then, but there was no one left in the club to lead. The student council began circling. If I couldn't conjure fresh memberships out of thin air, they would dissolve the club and reassign me to some frantic, crowded corner of the school. My club advisor sat before me, his voice sounding like dry leaves scattering across pavement. He told me that the club must grow or serve some concrete purpose, or it was finished. I told him I would try, but it was a lie. I went through the motions, taping posters to hallway walls, offering to solve 'mysteries', whatever that meant. In any case, I had little lingering attachments that place, so I wouldn't go all out to save the club now. It just wouldn't fit the way I chose to live my life. I expected a slow, quiet afternoon of sipping tea and reading books. But to think that someone actually came.

A thread keeps me bind to everyone I know. Stories that attach us as whole no matter how small. Memories from the past and present moments that will become distant thoughts in the future. I was always hungry for greatness, success- I strived for what I needed far earlier than their time. I knew I was destined to be something more, something I carried within me, something intangible. Yet something that was yet to bloom. I am The Thread that binds myself. With this Thread I will find me. 16-yr old Aspen Peters, living in Chicago, navigates her life through high school with a mind bloomed differently- that threads experiences together and pulls them apart while finding herself within the complex world of growing up and discovering life.

Soft. Is all I could think, as the pillows of his face collided with mine. It was soft and sweet, he lingered for a bit and after six seconds he pulled away. I did not want this moment to end missing the comfort of Carter's lips on mine, holding on to his shoulders and pulling him back. I made the move this time and planted my lips back. Carter's hands immediately went to my hips as if that is where they belonged. Grasping on to his neck in an instinctive attempt to bring him closer if that was even possible. The collision of our bodies opened something in me, I was flying up to the clouds soaring through hues of pink and orange. Wanting it to last forever, but the reality of both of us needing to catch our breaths came crashing down.

However, growing up, Nova always felt something was missing but she didn't know what it was. This begins to change when Nova discovers her life is all a lie after meeting the newest black kids in West Point: Justin and Tiffany Carlton. She struggles with her identity, but it soon becomes the least of her worries as she is thrown into a world of war; sent on a journey from where there is no return.
