In a fantasy world, where magic has faded and technology has burgeoned, Glark Underbrick, a goblin wizard who runs an unsuccessful magical bookshop, is resigned to magic becoming little more than a memory. Magic is a fickle thing. Throughout human history it has been surrounded by myth and legend. Culturally it has been mistaken for what is unknown, a way of explaining what has no definable cause. If crops failed to produce a bountiful harvest, it is was a failure to appease the gods on part of the farmer. If a relative died from an unknown cause, it was witchcraft. Magic is a scape goat for when understanding is lacking. For this reason, magic is shrouded in mystery. However, magic is real, and it not all that mysterious. For those who have experience of real magic, its just another form of science. Magic is governed by rules, just like the rest of all that is physical. What differentiates magic is that its rules do not comply with those of everything else. Magic acts in a way that is not 'natural', even though for magic it is perfectly natural. Those who understand magic know this. Fortunately, the mystery and mistrust that surrounds magic serves magic users fairly well.

The final exam for membership into the Hunter's Guild should be a walk in the park for Kristen. But her mentor Alpha failed to mention the heavy weight that membership carries with it. A meeting with The Grim Reaper and the Incarnation of Science, during her expedition, is only a start to the strange history that is Rootworld. A group of unsuspecting tourists board Rhiffuston Cobalt's dragon air bus on its maiden voyage, expecting to see the sights of Kanton-Elyp, not find themselves hurtling into parts unknown, being dragged there by a dragon called 'Daisy', who is about to explode in mid-air thanks to a Sloemarshen feeding it lethal gold dust. Leaving the blazing City of Kanton-Elyp behind, they set off on an un-planned adventure. At least they've got a crack assassin with them who is armed to the false teeth (She's got knitting needles and she isn't afraid to use them) and ... a lost vegetarian.

In a town like many other there is a young girls who is discovering that she is the key to changing he lives of everyone she knows. Scared of what others might want from her she must both save her family and keep her true self a secret from everyone she knows.

Every mourning one hundred thousand chickens, two hundred thousand goats, five hundred and eighty-two rats are killed (The bloody dwarfs, at least they've stopped eating the dogs) to feed the growing city. Fifty thousand of gallons of water are consumed, and numerous cloths dyes veagtables herbs fruits and candles. Every single day. The city grows, the city breaths, and the city poops one hundred thousand chic... ...fresh straight out into the ocean every single day. But most of all the city shines. And in the center of the city a young girl sleeps peaceful, dreaming of dragons Golems and Werewolves, with her five foot tall sword laying on her bedside table. "What brings you too my domain." The Golems voice rumbled through the air, small rocks falling from the ceiling. The thing was huge, Clara doubted her sword was going to do anything against it. She gulped. "Just...you know going sight seeing that's all." She said conversationally.
