"You are not going back to that man. Over my dead body!" He yelled at me with so much anger that I was at the verge of tears. With tears already in my eyes, I feebly replied "But he's dying and_" "So let him die and before he does let him suffer!" I gasped at his response. He spoke about my father with great hate and all I could do was sit there and cry. "Listen to me Fadesewa" his voice was softer this time around. "I don't want you to go back there. He may be at the verge of death for all I care, but he failed as a father. For Christ's sake Sewa, he kicked you out of his house for not obeying his rules_" "Whatever you say, always keep in mind that that man is my father. The one who was there when my mum wasn't. So let me bare the cross and go see him." I cut him off with a cold voice that sent chills down his spine. He gazed into my eyes almost as if he was trying to figure out if I was possessed. "You'll regret this" he simply said and walked away. "Then so be it" I whispered quietly to myself in his absence, wiping away my tears. Fadesewa Hope Gbenga is your not so typical eighteen year old high school student having to deal a controlling father and his enormous rules; No male friends. No tight or revealing clothes. The kingdom of Ifite had a complex tradition that differed from other kingdoms in Igboland. The kingship was nonlinear - it circulated among the families favoured by Ikukuike, the only deity in the land. The chosen family would rule for a period of eight seasons. The orator of the deity served office for a lifetime, and it alternated between a woman and a man. The next mouthpiece was chosen by the deity himself a moon after the former had passed on. The kingdom had a stream running before the shrine of the deity, and anyone who had come to consult had to pass through it before entering. It was known as the sacred stream of purity yet there was more to it that nobody, not even the Ezemmuo knew about. This was an agrarian community sufficient through favours of the deity. Ijemmiri was invited to work for the palace after she was favoured by the queen. She couldn't have turned down the offer because in Ifite serving royalty was an honour. Igwe Ojemba had one season to go before the crown would be shifted to around family. There wasn't any opposition to this tradition until Lolo Nneora conspired with a Dibia in the neighbouring kingdom to influence the spiritual realms that decided the next ruler. She made sacrifices so that the kingship would eternally remain in the lineage of her husband, the king. The death of Ezemmuo came as an opportunity to her, thinking that her disobedient plan would fruition. Little did she know that the maid she favoured was the next Ezenwanyi.

who told you that our lives were being lived wrong? who gave others the permission to dictate our lives? who the hell gave them the right to say our lives were meaningless? and who said that our futures are never going to be bright? they say we have a death wish, that what we're doing will destroy us. what do we say to that? we know what we're doing and we love it. we listen to lyrics that match our pain. we do things to numb our feelings. we smoke because it makes us feel better. we taste blood because it reminds us that we're alive, even if we're dead inside. we are the kids you're parents will hate, but the kids that'll always relate. • • • she inhaled the cigarette so long that you wondered how much smoke she could consume. when she exhaled, she looked at me. "my dad hates me and now so does yours," she chuckled. "why does your dad hate you?" "because I remind him of what he wants to forget," she laughed even more."at least he doesn't lie like my mom; she tells me she loves me." a tear, which she quickly wiped away, escaped from her eye despite her laugh.

This is an essay I wrote when as a punishment for when I was disobedient. I didn't like what I did and didn't want to write it, but if I didn't, I'd be grounded for three weeks. So, here is what I wrote. Maybe you'll like it. PLEASE NOTE contains Bible verses to prove a point, not to be religious.
