who told you that our lives were being lived wrong? who gave others the permission to dictate our lives? who the hell gave them the right to say our lives were meaningless? and who said that our futures are never going to be bright? they say we have a death wish, that what we're doing will destroy us. what do we say to that? we know what we're doing and we love it. we listen to lyrics that match our pain. we do things to numb our feelings. we smoke because it makes us feel better. we taste blood because it reminds us that we're alive, even if we're dead inside. we are the kids you're parents will hate, but the kids that'll always relate. • • • she inhaled the cigarette so long that you wondered how much smoke she could consume. when she exhaled, she looked at me. "my dad hates me and now so does yours," she chuckled. "why does your dad hate you?" "because I remind him of what he wants to forget," she laughed even more."at least he doesn't lie like my mom; she tells me she loves me." a tear, which she quickly wiped away, escaped from her eye despite her laugh.
