A nameless traveler tries to reconcile the stark contrast in wealth that he witnesses on a stroll through the city. Filled with existential despair and acerbic wit these short stories or, 'lamentations,' grapple with themes ranging from contemporary politics, to God and religion, to the absurdity of everyday existence. From the opening moments exploring the unraveling mind of a character on a journey through the vacuity of consumer society, to the finale in which we await the arrival of an absent Messiah, these stories cut to the heart of the human condition. https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/20856796.Simon_Brass

Ian has lived a complacent life as an introverted young adult, placidly drifting along and content with not making a mark, until an unexpected encounter wrenches him from the warmth of familiarity into a tumultuous world of danger and thrill. With new companions, new abilities, and a stark new view of the world, he learns the hard way that nothing is what he thought it was, including himself. He must face trials which will challenge the very core of his being, and hope to retain who he is on the other side of it all. This story will follow him in a slow burn as he discovers the wonders his world has to offer, as well as the price of testing the waters of the unknown. The question is, can an ordinary man withstand extraordinary circumstances without losing himself completely? Ian has no choice but to find out.

A poem I wrote a few years ago following a breakup I went through, in which I knew nothing could be done to change anything yet I still hoped for some sort of future. Through this misfortune I was very focused on the "what ifs" and "what could have beens" rather than trying to cope, understand, reflect, learn, and move on. This poem focuses on my understanding of the difference between what I feel and what I know. The poem hints at both these aspects throughout, focusing on both moving on and knowing how hard it is.

Well, other than the white fox she saved. Even her roommate Brooke doesn't know the real Eleanora, doesn't know the scared little girl hiding inside. Hiding a secret is hard, especially when you go to a boarding school in the middle of Thistleborne, where they are most bias to magic. When Eleanora discovers the deepest secrets of her boarding school, learns the Tale of Maledicta, and when events from the past are reappearing, things are never more confusing. She has to find the truth in lies, find the lies in truth, find her true friends, but most of all... find herself, before the worst comes. Is she really a witch? And are there more out there? And... why do the trees keep whispering to her? There's only one way to find out. To enter The Woods.

Beneath an idealized surface, hidden from the casual observer, lies a mysterious complexity of raw emotion and inner turmoil. What's shown clashes with what's truly felt within, creating conflicts and anticipation as the carefully constructed image is peeled away to reveal the often-unseen reality of the heart. This is a collection of poems for him/ her.
