For the light-skinned girls shunned by both worlds. This poem is dedicated to social activists such as Zendaya, Thandiwe Newton, and all the "colored girls" working to promote inclusion within our community, especially in the arts industry. As long as I can remember, Black women have always struggled with the ability to coexist with one another between the color lines. Speaking on these issues and working together to rid ourselves of this inner prejudice is the only way to close the gap in our community.

A sensible person might call this the arrogance of a teenage heart. Not that I disagree, and yet here I am looking for empathy as I lay a sheet of sorrow on my naivety. This is a piece of writing that shows the reality that a certain child feels at the age of growth and change.
