The Capitol wanted the districts to choose their own sacrifices. They never expected the answer would haunt them. When District 7 votes in the Briar twins, Asher and Willow are sent into a living forest that changes with the seasons and devours the weak. One twin fights with fury. The other survives by kindness. Neither is willing to become what the Capitol demands. As the arena turns beautiful and brutal, the Games spiral toward a moment the Capitol cannot control and cannot erase. Some stories end with a victor. This one ends with a silence.

Esmeralda Theo, a young girl from district 12, won the 66th Hunger Games; being the second youngest to ever win. Now with all her trauma from the games, she's a mentor who has to help the tributes get through the games. After meeting Katniss and Peeta she knew things were going to be different. With the help from Cinna, Effie, Haymitch, and Finnick, this is how Esmeralda gets through everything while trying to help them. Briar-Rose Callaghan only cared about 2 things, her sisters Sylvia and Magnolia, so when Sylvia gets reaped she doesn't think twice about volunteering in her place. The idea of the games terrifies her, the idea of going into the games with her best friend terrifies her even more. But above all she just wants to be home again. At least her family would have one less mouth to feed.

A skilled trap-maker and knife fighter, Diana has learned to survive by relying on her sharp mind and the brutal lessons life has taught her. Beneath her defiance and biting words is a quiet, burning resentment toward the Capitol, waiting for the right moment to ignite.
