~ "How do you know this?" Ivy snarled, a murderous glint forming in her cold blue eyes. "I think the more pressing question is, why am I who knows this? " Celia replied narrowing her eyes. She adjusted her posture attempting to match Ivy's height. "Don't you see," Ivy hissed, "Choices make us weak, differences make us weak, human nature itself makes us weak!" Ivy lowered herself down so she was centimeters from Celia's face. "That's why," Ivy smiled sickly in mock sweetness, "it had to be changed." Celia's knees felt weak. Beside her, Ember and Jacob gasped for air and struggled against the guards grip. A sickening sense of realization washed over Celia. So she had been correct. In the Ancient Past, people had choices and free-will. But why did it have to be changed? For once, Celia was at a complete loss for words. "W-why" She stammered. A wicked smile played across Ivy's lips. "In the Ancient Past, the world was changing quickly. Too quickly for the humans to keep up. Violence was becoming more common, many were opposed to it, we had to change that." Ivy explained, staring directly at Jacob. He glared murderously. Ivy glanced at Ember before saying, "humans also became too threatening to the government. Thought they could rebel and get away with it. Well that also needed to be changed." Ember snorted sarcastically, earning a slap from the guard. "Humans also," Ivy continued, "became to obsessive, loving and greedy. So the government made your village, and many others like it, to, over the years alter human nature, make it better, easier to cope with. Our mission is almost complete, humans no longer feel complex emotions, have desire for free will, nor are bothered by acts of violence. We are almost ready to rejoin society, as a better human race." Celia's insides burned with anger. These absolute monsters had turned a beautiful race into an army of drones. "You won't get away with this!" Celia snarled. Ivy smiled icily, "Oh but sweetheart, I already have."~
