Chloe Quinn is technically a genius, but smarts don't seem to matter when you haven't seen your twin sister since you were three.
The real reason is simple; Chloe lives in the South side, the uber-progressive age of technology. However, her sister, Allie, lives in the West, a civilization where devices are actually outlawed.
The United States was unmercilessly split two ways after a massive war in the past. The two sides were only allowed to see each other once every three years for the rest of their lives. Only, to Chloe and Allie's disappointment, it was previously canceled three times in a row.
When Chloe and Allie are finally reunited, they quickly find out that something's off about both sides. Something iniquitous. They run away together in a slightly under-planned but well-meaning journey. Everyone needs to know that families shouldn't be forced apart, no matter how different they are.
Along the way, they encounter a sarcastic clone, anti gravity wormholes, and a homeless but helpful Southern. Despite their fun, it's hard to ignore the creepily well placed challenges that seem to follow them wherever they go. On top of it all, Chloe's on the brink of discovering a well-kept secret that's been eating up half the population- and maybe even her and Allie.
But it's nothing a genius and her sister can't handle.
