Detectives found these letters numbered in this order after the disappearance of a young girl. They were addressed to her.

"Not much happens in little old Shirleybrook Louisiana." "You know the warm breath you feel on the back of your neck? You may be feeling it right now. Don't look behind you, we may be reading this with you as we speak."

The Race happens every year. The Elders established this race 125 years ago. Every year, 9 contestants, one from each Zone, take place in a race to the death. Why would people go along with this? The winner will receive ¥1,000,000 and luxury food for a year and are entered in a place in the Selection, as well as given a home for them and their families in Central. The Zones that surround Central are poor and can barely sustain themselves. Central is where the rich people, celebrities, and government officials live. They get the easy and desirable jobs for big money, while the Zone workers get back-breaking labor for little to maybe even no pay. The Royal Family live in Central as well. The Royal Family is in control of the race and the winner is the Prince or Princess' suitor. Mel Conrad lives with her dad in Zone 6 and is one of the contestants in the 125th annual Race. So is her brother Ryan, who lives with his mother in Zone 1. Only one of the twins will survive and enter the Selection and possibly become a member of the Royal Family. Which one will it be?

Winter never was part of the in crowd and that didn't bother her. She had a small circle of friends, each holding their purpose but after she begins having grotesque nightmares of a creature called Slenderman everything around her begins to change and monsters come to life, monsters that you could only dream of.

Inspired by a horror plot I read online: A boy had a gift that he could see auras. Green meant that the person was going to live for a long time. Orange meant that they would die soon. And red meant murder or accident soon. When he went to his new school, he was the first in the classroom. A girl walked in. Her aura was red. Then another. Red. And another. Red again. As the class filled up with blinding red lights, he caught sight of his own rosy aura in the screen of the interactive whiteboard. Then the teacher walks in, and the boy turns pale. Because the teacher's aura was a sickly neon green. Dun dun dun! So this is my own extended version of that story. Enjoy (and don't look behind you!)
