I've always loved when Noona would tell me stories to bed. Especially mysteries and crimes. I love theorizing with her, what might've happened, connecting clues with her, it's my absolute favorite.
Her voice is always so soothing, it's like a lullaby moms sing to their little ones.
"Seungho-yah, have you ever heard of doppelgangers?" she whispered to me as she caresses her hand gently on my forehead. I open my eyes and lace my eyes on her face.
"Yeah, I have, noona. Why do you ask?"
"What would you do if you see one?"
"I'd approach them." I see her tilting her head, probably in confusion, by the brief answer I gave her.
"Why? You do know that according to superstitions, meeting one can lead you to your death?"
I turned my head and look up at her face.
Her smile went from a curve to a straight line. The soft look of her eyes shifted to something else. Something.. I can't read.
"..I'd like to know them. There's only one "you" in this life. Even if we share the same face, I believe that we're very different people with very different lives and stories. So.. I'd like to know about them more. Plus, it's not everyday you get to see someone with the same face as yours!" And I ended my "long" explanation with a proud smile.
"..is there something wrong, Noona? You kept questioning me this since this morning.." I ask her again.
She shakes her head and smiles. A fake smile of reassurance, I can tell.
"Now, close your eyes and go to sleep, Seungho. You have to save energy for tomorrow."
Nevertheless, I close my eyes. Tomorrow, we'll go and ride under that snowcapped carousel. And that was all that mattered.
It's been years, and you still haven't told me, Noona.
