Por ello en este artículo vamos a ver las características que hacen tan adrenalínica la modalidad Downhill en el ciclismo de montaña. Implica descender por la montaña en bicicleta en el menor tiempo posible. Si tuviéramos que definir con dos palabras el DH sería: agresividad y velocidad. Los que lo practican la modalidad de Downhill son subidos por camionetas a alguna zona de alta montaña, directamente al inicio del marcaje de la pista. Si esta pista se encuentra en un Bikepark posiblemente el modo de subir al ciclista sea mediante gondolas teleféricas pues muchos de estos parques son centros de ski durante el invierno. Como ya lo mencionamos, un objetivo en el Downhill es descender lo más rápido posible. La pista presenta cierto tipo de complicaciones técnicas hechas por el humano como rampas, drops, peraltes y por dificultades que la misma montaña tiene. Es considerada una de las modalidades más extremas y arriesgadas del ciclismo de montaña. El Downhill es la segunda modalidad más conocida del MTB y al igual que el XC tiene muchos seguidores a nivel mundial. Esta modalidad también forma parte del ciclismo de montaña competitivo, llevándose a cabo carreras en todas partes del mundo. Además, la copa del mundo y el campeonato del Mundo se encuentran avaladas por la UCI. Para poder obtener un lugar para participar en estas competencias tan representativas; es necesario acumular puntos al quedar como ganador en seriales o copas reconocidas por esta organización, como son las copas Nacionales alrededor del mundo y, en casos como latinoamérica, en competencias de juegos panamericanos.
