------------------------------------The common room was empty, save for the flickering fire casting long shadows. I was trying to focus on my book, but the moment I felt a presence behind me, I knew I wasn't alone.
"Can't concentrate, can you?" Draco's voice was softer than usual, but there was that familiar smirk teasing at the corner of his mouth.
I closed my book, trying to hide my racing heart. "Maybe I just don't like being watched," I replied, though the sharpness in my tone betrayed nothing.
He leaned closer, just enough that I could feel the warmth of him, and for the first time, the smirk faded into something... uncertain. "Or maybe you like it," he murmured, and my breath caught.
My pulse hammered in my ears. "Don't flatter yourself," I whispered, but I didn't move away.
Draco's hand brushed mine a fleeting touch, electric and dangerous-and suddenly the teasing war between us felt different, charged. "Careful," he said, voice low, almost a growl. "You're playing with fire."
I looked up at him, and for a heartbeat, all the walls between us fell. "Maybe I like fire," I breathed.
And for the first time, neither of us walked away.
