In the autumn of 1999, Draco Malfoy's life takes a hilarious, unexpected turn when the Ministry's new probation law assigns him to work with Elise Arthurs, a bubbly, Muggle-born Hufflepuff. Draco's first instinct is to resist her infectious cheerfulness and the way she seems to see the good in everyone-even him. But despite his best efforts to stay distant, Elise's warmth, charm, and knack for cooking (among other things) have him slowly rethinking everything he thought he knew about himself-and her.
When Elise invites Draco to a movie, he reluctantly agrees, only to find himself swept up in the magic of her laughter and easy smile. Over the next few weeks, he can't help but notice how much better life feels with her around-especially when she's teaching him how to cook (or rather, teaching him not to burn everything). As their playful banter turns into deeper moments of connection, Draco finds himself falling for the woman he never would have imagined could melt his icy heart.
But there's one problem-his family. The Malfoys would never approve of his relationship with a Muggle-born, and the stakes are too high for them to be seen together. Desperate to escape the constant pressure, Draco makes a rash decision: he and Elise elope to New York City, changing their identities and becoming ordinary Muggles, living far from the shadow of their families.
Together, they build a new life, free of the pressures of society and the pain of the past.
