From her first memory, Azalei has always loved the idea of Dragons. Immortal, powerful beasts that got their power from the stars. Azalei has been an orphan since she was six, and has been raised at the Dragonborn orphanage in the kingdom of Eveilor.
The Festival of Dragons is a festival that celebrates the end of the war that happened a thousand years ago between the Dragons and the Drelyths, bloodthirsty water-serpent-like Immortals that have battled the Dragons for centuries. Unable to see the festival all her life because of the cruel headmistress, on the night of her seventeenth birthday she sneaks out to see the Festival at last.
But at the Festival that night she meets a mysterious dark-haired boy with unusual eyes and a wicked sense of humour. At first, she brushes off the encounter. But as she watches the Storytellers recount how the war ended, she starts to uncover the truth of the boy she met. He's a Great Dragon. Able to shift to have the body of a human and his dragon form. But hes not just any Great Dragon either. He's Khyros. The Great Dragon that betrayed his kind to help the Drelyths a thousand years ago. Thought by the people of Eveilor to be put to sleep eternally by his brother Oberon, and hated and scorned for turning his back on his people and kingdom.
But every night as he comes to Azalei's window and shows her the kingdom she never knew, she begins to think that perhaps he's not the soulless monster people think he is. After all, history is written by the victor, even if that victor is not telling the full truth.
