We've all read Samuel Coleridge's classic poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. But what if the mariner was really...a dwarf? And what if, instead of three bridegrooms, it was Raistlin the Mage held captive, listening to the tale? What follows is the first part an exciting story filled with kender, theft (of course), dwarven treasure, and dragon, in the style of Coleridge. All the love to the inimitable Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickman, and much thanks (and apologies) to Mr. Coleridge.

This is a what if timeline. This is my idea of what could have happened if Fistandantilus had been trapped in the abyss by the dark queen. As fans would know, this would cause the death of a fan favorite, Raistlin. I had pondered what may have happened during the time of the War of the Lance if he had been killed by the dark elf, Dalamar, and how the Gods of light and neutrality managed to keep the balance and the world out of the Dark Queens hands.
