Viterbi is an established algorithm with many applications, but the splitting of stratigraphic mappings into a Bayesian state space and application of Viterbi is novel and allows for efficient, probabilistic solution-finding. The whole space of possible solutions can be considered, and implicitly gives solution likelihoods. The technique also accounts for the complexity of produced solutions. We know that energy exposures provide a significant amount of threat to a worker on a drilling rig. We also know it is important to have strong processes in place to help mitigate our exposure to energy as we Actively C.A.R.E. for ourselves and others. Mitigating these risks requires the development and refinement of robust processes and procedures, with worker input being key to ensure effectiveness and adherence. As the industry continues to evolve, so too must our commitment to safety, reflected in evolving processes, policies, and training practices.

AutoSlide technology was used for 88.5% of the lateral section. Significant increases were seen in both lateral onbottom rotating rate of penetration (ROP) and lateral slide ROP when compared to the previous 10-well average values, indicating to a significant improvement of 132% and 53%. These improvements translated to less days on well, which not only saves money, but also may allow for more wells to be drilled over the course of a year. Based on this success, the operator has added technology packages, including AutoSlide technology, to additional rigs. Maximizing reservoir contact in unconventional laterals and horizontal drilling requires several moving parts across engineering and geology teams. With so much uncertainty in both the actual bottomhole location of the well, and the location of the payzone, staying on target can become a moving target. H&P 's Automated Geosteering solution removes the manual burden of correlating gamma ray logs and instead uses real-time measurements of geological properties to update the well plan instantly, helping ensure that the borehole accesses the correct geology. It's like having a map that lets you see the whole journey upfront with the added benefit of real-time route adjustments when needed.

They are then integrated in the torsional equation of motion of the stick-slip model. A case study is carried out to show the consistency between the simulated results and field data. Stick-slip is a highly damaging dysfunction that adversely effects all components of the drill string. In the case of this paper, the subject well experienced high stick-slip resulting in inefficient drilling and increased risk of equipment failure. Modelling of the drill string successfully replicated the stick-slip response observed at the rig site. Further modelling with consideration of the motor bend angle's effect successfully showed a reduction in stick-slip magnitude. REMOVE UNCERTAINTY WITH DATA AS YOU DRILL Drilling practices alone are not enough to accurately deliver a high quality wellbore, as success is equally dependent on the accuracy of the wellbore survey. H&P's Survey Management increases the accuracy and consistency of how we measure boreholes, enabling the delivery of any outcome that relies on knowledge of the wellbore position or shape. These outcomes include landing a curve, properly spacing laterals, safely performing collision avoidance operations, and updating well plans and geological models to accurately reflect data that was measured while drilling.

ADIPEC is one of the largest and most prestigious events in the oil and gas industry and is a great opportunity to connect with a vast number of our customers and peers around the globe on the incredible strides we are making together. Having been in the drilling business for over a century, we've seen a lot of changes in that time. This legacy we have created provides us with a unique perspective on the evolution of the energy industry and allows us to continue to innovate and lean on technology to propel us into the next frontier. When I think about the conversations taking place even five years ago compared to now, it's clear that we are innovating at a more rapid rate than we've ever seen before. The discussions that occur each year at ADIPEC help to steer the world's energy future and it's an honor to take part in that conversation. Interesting, right? As the intermediate section was being drilled, the key formation tops were detected as coming in much shallower than the geological prognosis had predicted. As a result of this real-time intelligence, the operator was able to quickly switch to depth-of-cut drilling 100 feet earlier than had been originally planned. This change was key, as the Travis Peak actually came in 95 feet shallow. By quickly reacting to the gamma data, unnecessary bit damage was avoided and a possible extra trip was saved. The roadmaps for additional wells on this pad were then updated with this new information to help ensure there won't be any future surprises. Continuous real-time updating of the bit position is one of the many critical analysis steps that can be automated, driving steering decisions. The practice of accurately predicting bit position and trajectory is a skill that is artfully developed by expert directional drillers over many years. To demonstrate the value of partial automation, a specific example is presented where the continuous calculation of the real-time bit position and its trajectory is fully automated, showing that the analysis and decision-making performed by the automated system is faster and more accurate than performed by human directional drillers.
