They've been living in a sewer, so it only makes sense that they get sick sometimes. The weird thing is, they never all get sick at once (in fact it usually happens one at a time, oddly enough). Thus, the burden of nursing each other back to health always fell on each other, and they wouldn't have it any other way.

I continued walking down the alley. I walk down this alley everyday and pass by dingy shattered glass, old garbage cans and black cats. The street lights are all broken, all except one. I gaze at its insignificant beauty surrounding the dismal city structures. I live in an old apartment building on Hamilton street. It's one of the crapiest parts of town. As I approach the building, I hear the echoes of children laughing and the sound of a rusty swingset swinging. Then I hear gunshots. All I can think to do is : run.
