I wanted to run, but I couldn't move. Nothing. My arms were still bent in 90-degree angles. The man in the black cloak walked around to face me. Fear coursed through my veins. His eyes were filled with lustrous gold. I had never seen it in eyes besides my own. "Finally, we meet," he said in a cold voice. A chill ran down my immobile spine. He slowly paced around me. "I have waited a long time for this moment, Jane," he continued. "It's a shame you've decided to rebel. Your family would have received the highest of honors if you had joined my forces. Your powers could have destroyed empires." My fear shifted to rage as he spoke of my family. My powers pulled back into me, building up like an impending tsunami. "Release me. Let me destroy him." It whispered. "No. Not Yet." I ordered the voice inside me. It wasn't time. He stopped in front of me and held a gray rag over my mouth and nose. I had no choice but to breathe in the drug coated onto the cloth. He released me from his invisible hold; my legs gave out from under me. I felt my head make contact with the floor before it all went dark.

When Magnus and Talia allowed themselves to think about being together again, they thought it would mean that they were both safe--but nothing could be further than the truth. Newly allied with the rebels, the pair soon finds themselves on the run from the crazed military commander turned dictator Avalon Chase, who wants nothing more than to kill them both. Their destination is a village to the south that may or may not exist. The journey there will be treacherous. Loyalties between friends and family will be tested. People will die. And that's not mentioning the fact that Magnus, Talia, and Talia's sister Nicole are being followed the whole way there... This is the conclusion to The Exiles series.

Talia and her newfound sister Nicole are now back from the island and in relative safety...but that doesn't make life any easier. The sisters find themselves in poverty with a broken family, and Talia struggles to adjust, especially with living in a new, corrupt city and pining for the boy that almost killed her... Meanwhile, Magnus is brought from the island for his new post as president. But a corrupt military leader wants to take over and will do anything to stay in power. And with a Revolution on the horizon, life could not get any more dangerous. Especially when Magnus finds himself tangled up in treason, violence, and self loathing over the terrible things he's done, all while searching desperately for the very girl he hurt. So much has never been at stake. This is the second installment of the Exiles trilogy.

The ruling royal family has slowly been destroying the old traditions and laws of the original country for generations, in the process, losing knowledge of the old kingdom, sparking unknown and dire consequences.
