Zie Roberts wakes up and can't remember anything about who she was before she arrived at the training school, which is basically an over glorified warehouse turned boarding school to train young teenagers how to fight and survive outside of the gates. Everyone keeps telling her that temporary amnesia is common among the newbies. But the longer Zie stays at the school the more she feels as if she's been there before.

Long Big-Foot-story short, things happen- powerful things- and lives are saved. Ella Kay Donelly was never a Donnelly to begin with, but a Wendorff, a royal one in the world of monsters. Daemons are killed, for once supernatural beings are holy, and the liberi, otherwise known as humans, have no idea about any of it. God gave the holy ones the purpose that trumps all.
