She swallowed the sudden lump that formed in her throat, blinking away traitorous tears that were on the brink of her lashes. She stoop up abruptly. She couldn't believe it! He was refusing because his mother said she didn't approve. How could she say no without even meeting her once? She ran to her room, as tears spilled from her eyes, one after the other, soaking her scarf. She slumped on the floor, burying her face in her lap, crying for being so vulnerable and foolish. Why did she ever fall in love? She should have just remained the carefree tomboy that she was, the one who loved sport and outdoor activities and cringed at the mention of a husband, the one that only had friends that were boys but knew where to draw the line! Why was she so foolish?? Why just why? With quivering lips, she slammed her bedroom door shut. Sinking onto the carpeted floor once again.
