English is not my first language, but I have done my best to preserve the tone and atmosphere of the original. Fluency was never the priority- mood, silence, and restraint were. This is not a story about fast romance or clear answers. It leans heavily into atmosphere: dry heat, a red sun hanging on the horizon, long distances, and the things that are never quite said out loud. I've held onto this story for a long time. It was written quite a while ago, but I still care deeply about it- which is why I'm sharing it now. Please note: this is not a fluffy story. Complete short story.
