Maybe I was destined to be doomed. I didn't know it would take this long. He should've died then and there. And she should've minded her business. But neither of them did as they were told. And I wondered if anything would ever be fair in my life. I had walked for what felt like 800 miles. But it wasn't that much. But I knew it was a while. I got to a part of town that I hadn't seen. I guess it was a long time for me to be walking, cause it was sunset. I had been walking since noon. It must've been about 6 o'clock, cause it's winter, and the sun is nowhere to be seen. I'm just glad I wasn't back in the woods again. The only few buildings I had seen was a gas station and a convenience store. There were two cars at the gas station, and one at the store. One of them was a truck, it didn't seem to have a driver in it yet. I don't want to sleep out here tonight, it'd be best to go however far I can in the bed of the truck, and then hop off when I need to. Whether that be getting caught or falling out, so be it. I'm desperate, homeless, cold, and I could've been an orphan. I should've anyway.

She would do anything to protect it. With more and more problems arising, fear of losing the ranch creeps in. She never really put much effort into anything other than the ranch. She had no desire to. Nothing else came close in importance. Until she begins spending more time with a cowboy working on the ranch. Sure, she had known Ryan vaguely but never really spoke to him.
